Asus and MSI Unveil an Onslaught of Tablets

May 31st, 2010 at 08:25pm Under Computers & Internet

It’s a tablet day at Computex. Asus has unleashed two tablets and an e-reader upon the world, while MSI has launched its own tablet named the WindPad.
The 12-inch Eee Pad Ep121 is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. Just like the iPad, it sports a virtual keyboard, but it can also be connected to a physical keyboard. Its primary uses, according to Asus, are web browsing, multimedia and reading e-books. Its battery should hold for 10 hours of continuous use.
The smaller 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC is based on Windows Embedded Compact 7 OS, Microsoft’s successor to Windows CE, but the exact specs haven’t yet been revealed by Asus.

Finally, there’s the Eee Tablet. The naming of these three products will surely cause some confusion amongst users, since the device named “Tablet” is actually an e-reader. Besides e-reading, it’s designed for note-taking, which you can do only with the included stylus. It sports a greyscale, TFT-LCD touchscreen with 1024×758 resolution and 2450 dpi input resolution, which should make it one of the most accurate digital note taking devices around. It also has a MicroSD memory card slot, a 2 megapixel camera, and its battery should last for 10 hours of continuous use.

At the same time, MSI launched the WindPad 110, a 10-inch tablet, running Windows 7, powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor. It has 2GB of RAM, 32 GB of SSD storage, and the finalized version is expected to have two USB ports, an HDMI and a webcam. The screen is a 1024×600-resolution capacitive display, and MSI added its own Wind Touch UI on top of Windows 7.
What do you think, how will these new devices fare against their most obvious competitors, the iPad and the Kindle? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Beaches, Redwood Forests — Santa Cruz Has it All

May 31st, 2010 at 08:23pm Under Computers & Internet

Want to sample the best that California has to offer? Santa Cruz offers a surprising combination of some of the state’s best attractions — beaches, redwood forests and a big city just an hour away.

Give up? Try Santa Cruz. Built along some of the Golden State’s most scenic coastline, this city gives you many of the state’s famous attractions in one easy-to-drive area.

We were amazed, for example, when we topped off a morning of beach sightseeing with a little seven-mile drive up to the sleepy town of Felton. Almost instantly we were taken from a bustling beach town to a forest so thick you could hardly see through the trees. It’s no wonder that the famed “Bigfoot” was spotted in the Redwoods not too far from here, and that today there is a Bigfoot Museum beckoning both the curious and the amused.

Fifteen minutes later we were back in Santa Cruz, enjoying the sweeping coastal views and watching as visitors and locals basked in the winter sun while enjoying lunch at one of the city’s many outdoor cafes. Most likely their menu choices included lots of fresh produce ‘ apples, berries, spinach, squash, tomatoes, etc. ‘ as these and other fruits and vegetables are all grown close to Santa Cruz. In fact, there does seem to be a lot of attention paid in Santa Cruz to diet and exercise. It’s hard to be unhealthy in a place where you can easily jog along spectacular ocean cliffs or hike the trails of a half-dozen area state parks.

If we were so inclined ‘ and we weren’t on this particular trip ‘ it would be a reasonable day trip from Santa Cruz into the San Francisco Bay area. And that’s why you’ll want to allow plenty of time for your visit: there is something new every direction you turn.

If you have the opportunity, we’d suggest a midweek visit to Santa Cruz. That’s what we did and, while it’s not exactly a ghost town during the work week, there do seem to be plenty of wide-open spaces to explore with little or no concern about traffic. Santa Cruz motels and inns had big empty parking lots during this January visit, and we’re told all of that changes on weekends.

Our base of operations was the Hilton Scotts Valley, a good choice for travelers who want their lodging a little ways away from the bustle of the beach. Scotts Valley is only a 10-minute drive to Santa Cruz, so it’s really not at all remote. Yet this hotel features huge luxury rooms — just as you would expect from a Hilton — and, we should add, some of the most courteous employees you’ll find anywhere.

Driving into Santa Cruz, you first wind your way through the downtown area where it soon becomes apparent that this is a beach city in every sense of the term. Like many other coastal cities, Santa Cruz does attract down-to-earth non-conformists who, for example, don’t have any hesitation using hair colors that looked like they were chosen from a box of crayons. Think about your worst fashion nightmare for your teenage kids, and that’s what you sometimes see on the streets of Santa Cruz ‘ which, of course is part of the charm. You don’t travel just to see places exactly like home.

Out on West Cliff Drive, where the views from these coastal bluffs are painting-perfect, you encounter the surf crowd. On any given day, dozens of free-spirited surfers are paddling out to ride some of Northern California’s most challenging waves. Long, narrow concrete stairways give the surfers easy access to the water not far from where the waves break. On the bright, sunny day we visited, maybe half of the pedestrians along West Cliff Drive were carrying surfboards.

Indeed, this part of Santa Cruz is Surf Central. And be sure and check out the tiny but informative Surfing Museum, just above the rocky shores, that features exhibits showing how the sport came about. Housed in a former lighthouse, the Surfing Museum includes lots of memorabilia and examples of different types of surfboards ‘ some so big and heavy that one wonders how the original surfers ever managed to get these things to and from the beach.

About a five-minute drive and we were back in downtown Santa Cruz. Just another few blocks out to the beach and we had arrived at the famed Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The roller coaster, thrill rides and buildings of the Boardwalk are an indelible part of the Santa Cruz skyline and visitors enjoy the nostalgia of visiting the West Coast’s only seaside boardwalk. The 75-year-old roller coaster is said to be just as thrilling as any of the newer ones, and that has been augmented by a host of other, more modern rides. Of course there are the bumper cars, the carousel, the huge arcade and, uniquely, a broad and beautiful beach where you can sun yourself and, in summer, enjoy a dip in the ocean.

The Boardwalk area is only one of the many beaches and coastal vantage points in the Santa Cruz area. Just south of Santa Cruz, there are some scenic state beaches near Capitola and at La Selva Beach. You can carve out a few hours and take a scenic drive on north on the Coastal Highway wher eyou’ll find many more beaches including Waddell State Beach. You’ll also want to check out the Roaring Camps Railroad, just a short distance north on Highway 9, where you can ride a historic steam train.

Our own drive north on Highway 9 was short but productive. Not only did we get a look at Henry Cowell State Park with its towering redwoods, trickling streams and recreation trails, but we also had a chance to stop by the small, inconspicuous wood building that now houses the Bigfoot Museum. Most days, proprietor Mike Rugg is watching the store all by himself and, no doubt, will be more than willing to share with you his many Bigfoot stories — as he did with us.

Understand that Mike has never actually seen a Bigfoot ‘ at least not that he can say with any degree of certainty. But he became convinced about the creature’s authenticity when he did a college term paper on the subject. While the professor gave him only a “C” on the report and dismissed his research as having as much ‘ or little ‘ validity as a UFO sighting, Rugg was undeterred.

Bigfoot is supposed to be a creature perhaps eight feet tall that resembles a gorilla and is said to roam remote mountain regions of the Pacific Northwest, Northern California and other locations. While little scientific evidence supports the claim, there are hundreds of sightings reported and one grainy home movie that Rugg is convinced is the real deal. Inside the Bigfoot Museum you’ll find a six-foot blowup of a picture taken from that movie, and there are also several footprint casts and other evidence of Bigfoot’s existence. Since the museum opened in July, visitors have added many more sightings to his wall-size pin map showing just where Bigfoot has been spotted.

Whether it’s Sasquatch or modern-day hippies, Santa Cruz has plenty to keep your vacation interesting and unique.

Polyamorous

May 31st, 2010 at 07:53pm Under Home & Family

There is the fizz chat – polyamorous. From the Greek chat “poly”- acceptation abounding or multiple, and Latin “amor” suggesting love. Abounding loves, abounding affectionate relationships, at one time? What an adventuresome adulation life, and perhaps, a roller-coaster ride if not complicated. What absolutely does it imply?

Polyamorous is a attributes of a accord at a accustomed time wherein a being has assorted adventurous relationships with accord from all parties involved, describes Wikipedia. It is a blazon of relationship, a philosophy, a affairs revolving about the ethics of negotiation, openness, trust, honesty, dignity, and respect.

Here is the rub. Abstemiousness against polyamory. Traditional against liberalism. Adoration against relativism. Dr. Patrick Fagan addendum these differences: In a abstemiousness ability that implies dating, alliance and “for bigger or worst” abiding accord with just one partner, there is a angelic allowance that binds the brace together. Sanctity of affiliated activity is recognized. In contrast, a polyamory ability hides adoration or abolish it altogether, not to acknowledgment the adoration of God.

Moreover, the ability of polyamory, he continues, acts alone as a “safety net not alone for the afflicted but the unrestrained, more relies on amusing abundance programs to save its adherents from the furnishings of its anatomy of sexuality. In political discourse, he notes, the ability of abstemiousness highlights men committed to their family, wife, and children, admitting the ability of polyamory promotes bender – men and women butterfingers of animal restraint. Relationships, in accurate ancestors life, is either anxiously adequate or aimlessly exploited.

Then again, the behavior from which the ability of polyamory exists abate these actual differences. Freedom and sex may spell the difference; but the abiding after-effects could accomplish couples and lovers decide.

Bigfoot Monster Truck

May 31st, 2010 at 04:41pm Under Computers & Internet

BIGFOOT® all began in the mid 1970’s. Bob Chandler, the creator of BIGFOOT® with his wife, was a construction contractor working in St. Louis, USA. Bob used his Ford 250 4X4 Pickup Truck for both work and also off road family fun at the weekends. After breaking the toughest of trucks it soon became apparent that there was nowhere close by for him to get 4X4 parts and spares. Seeing the gap in the market, Bob and his wife Marilyn started up Midwest Four Wheel Drive. The Chandler’s used their truck as a work vehicle, as well as using it for promotional purposes. They tried out new parts on the truck, and kept on making it bigger and better. It escalated so much that the truck actually became an attraction in its own right. In 1979, at the Denver car show, the Chandler’s used their truck in its first paid event. Truck pulls in arenas and stadiums were soon to follow.

Two years later in 1981 Bob changed the whole concept of Monster Trucks. Just for fun he thought he would try and drive over a couple of scrap cars. He soon duplicated his stunt in a stadium show a couple of months later. That was the birth of car crushing Monster Trucks. In 1983 BIGFOOT® (named after he was told the reason he kept on breaking parts was because of his “big foot”) began its sponsorship deal with Ford Motor Company, which still stands today. Many more BIGFOOT® monster trucks have been built since then, BIGFOOT® #17 has been built for use in the UK and Europe.

Inspired by the success of BIGFOOT®, an explosion of imitations came forth in the mid 1980’s. In America car crushing became a staple of major truck pulling and mud racing events. After many years of just car crushing, the audience in 1987 were given a more exciting show, with monster truck racing. It is a full blown sport in America today, with multiple points series taking place across the country, and millions watch it weekly on television.

The creator of BIGFOOT® soon emerged at the forefront of monster truck technology. With the use of computer aided design packages he created a new breed of monster trucks designed with racing in mind. Radical new tubular chassis along with patented cantilever-based suspensions represent the state of the art race trucks design. BIGFOOT® 8 was the first BIGFOOT® to be born out of the new impressive mold. In 1992 BIGFOOT® 8 became world champion, 1992 saw Bob and his team place 1 and 2 in the series. 1994 saw the team place 1, 2 and 3, winning 11 out of 13 races. 1995 saw teams limited to two trucks, the BIGFOOT® team took first and third, and won 10 out of 15 races.

The History of BIGFOOT 17, Europe’s BIGFOOT.

Nigel Morris, the owner of L.A. Supertrux Ltd, started building his first real Monster Truck in the autumn of 2000. This project which later was given the name Wild Child was inspired by long time friend Tim Barks, who’s own project was well under way at this time. As Wild Child neared completion, Nigel had the chance to go to America as a crew member for another friend, Joe Ellis who was going to be running his race tuned Lotus Carlton in the famous Silver State Challenge road race near Las Vegas. Nigel saw this as his chance to visit the Holy Grail of Monster Trucks, BIGFOOT®. Nigel invited Tim to help with crew duties on Joe’s car so that they could both extend their stay in the USA to include a visit to Dan Patrick, at his Samson workshop, and then on to BIGFOOT®.

Whilst visiting BIGFOOT® Bob Chandler extended an invitation for the lads to return in December for the MTRA annual conference. 2000 saw Nigel & Tim make the trip to be the first Europeans EVER to attend the MTRA conference and also the Tech School. Nigel was very proud to pass the technicians exam, and become one of a very small band of people who are qualified to carry out technical, and safety checks on Monster Trucks. The membership of the MTRA voted unanimously to set up a European division, and Nigel was elected president.

During 2001 Nigel worked to fine tune Wild Child and to get used to driving a Monster Truck at speed. Wild Child also appeared in music videos and television adverts, as well as the Granada TV series Men & Motors.

During his December MTRA visit Nigel had discussions with Bob Chandler about the prospect of bringing BIGFOOT® back to the UK, and maybe touring Europe. It was during these discussions that the idea was formed to have a BIGFOOT® permanently available to the European public. Further discussions led to the plan being finalised for Nigel and L.A. Supertrux Ltd building and operating BIGFOOT® #17 “The UK BIGFOOT®”.

That process was completed in 2003 and BIGFOOT® #17 has been wowing the UK fans ever since. With regular appearances throughout the summer competing in the EMTRC (European Monster Truck Racing Championship), BIGFOOT® #17 and Nigel Morris were proud to take the title of 2003 Pro-MT European Champion.

In the 2004 EMTRC series Nigel and BIGFOOT® #17 were only prevented from taking the title by the cancellation of the final event. Good friend and fierce racing rival Ian Batey had blown the engine of his championship leading Lil Devil monster truck in a heat race with BIGFOOT® earlier in the day. Nigel only needed to finish the event, but sadly (for Nigel anyway) the beach race was scupperd by the incoming tide! With the event cancelled Nigel and BIGFOOT® #17 remained just 35 points away from a second title.

The 2005 EMTRC series was a torrid one for the BIGFOOT® team. With a brand new 572 cu in Big Block Ford the team had high hopes for the championship. If it wasn’t for a couple of small items, who knows what might have happened. Those small items were, gearboxes we blew up 6 of them and front wheels, and we knocked 3 of these off as well. Oh and then there was this Rob Williams bloke who ran away with the championship in his rookie year. For the whole BIGFOOT® team joint third in the EMTRC table was just not good enough.

2006 saw a return to winning ways. The BIGFOOT® team had made some changes in the winter months, adding a new drag race inspired gearbox as well as custom steel steering swivels. These changes seem to have fixed the reliability issues of the 2005 season and the EMTRC title was regained in domineering fashion. Six event wins and two second places from ten events!!

2007 whitnessed the continuation of our dominance in the EMTRC racing series with more event and race wins than any other team, bringing to the BIGFOOT® #17 racing team the EMTRC title once again. This title makes us the first team ever to retain our title year on year, and the first team ever to win 3 EMTRC titles. I think we’re really back this time!!

Charlotte Real Estate: an Issue of Trust

May 31st, 2010 at 04:36pm Under Home & Family

Finance in America has a long history of criminalsâ??men and women who use deception to turn profits. Today that seems especially apparent, with headlines routinely announcing one swindle after another. Paranoia and distrust from this news is sewn into the publicâ??s mindset. Couple that with an unstable economy and a grim financial situation emerges.

The real estate market in the past 10 years had had an important role in developing these trends. The current state of the economy is largely due to the subprime mortgage crisis. Itâ??s understandable then if homebuyers want to know more about realtors.

Transparency is a positive thing in business. It allows involved parties to understand and accept anotherâ??s motivation and goals. It fosters stronger relationships and develops lasting success. But business also employs cloak and dagger tactics. Nobody wants to give away too much information. Nor do they want to appear vulnerable, greedy, naïve or overzealous. In this regard, transparency is anathema to business.

Real estate, for most part, involves a buyer and a seller. Letâ??s focus on residential property. A buyer contacts a realtor and expresses interest in a home. The realtor describes the home, shows it, and works with the buyer. Easy, right?

The buyer understands the realtor is trying to sell him something. It is a conditional agreement that when a realtor shows a home he is trying to sell it. The buyer knows this, listens to the realtor, looks at the home, and then decides.

The realtor makes money from a sale. Itâ??s no surprise, then, that realtors work hard to sell property. The trouble starts when bonuses and financial incentives motivate realtors to distort the facts. If a realtor has an incentive to sell a home for a price that he knows the homes is not worth, chances are, especially in a difficult market, that heâ??ll do it. This makes potential buyers suspicious. And it spurs action.

In Charlotte, realtors were recently pressed to allow buyers access to their financial interests in selling a home.

The Charlotte Observer ran an article.

“We want to go over and look at it again,” said commission member Marsha Jordan, owner of Apple Realty in Lincolnton, speaking of the rule.

Jordan said colleagues around the state had expressed concern about having to reveal to clients what they make beyond the standard commission that’s recorded on a buyer’s agency agreement.

She and commission chairman Skip Alston, owner of a Greensboro real estate company, denied that the nine-member commission, which is made up mostly of real estate professionals, was putting their colleagues interests’ ahead of consumers.

Itâ??s plain to see people are wary. The best way to promote better relationships between realtors and buyers is transparency. When a buyer understands where a sellerâ??s motivations are, he feels more comfortable with the experience. But at the end of the day, buyers and sellers need to recognize that real estate is a business, and people are trying to make money.

American history is full of financial criminals. It is also full of trustworthy business people. Itâ??s time to flush out the criminals and focus on developing a healthy economy through hard work and trust.

Michael Russell writes about a variety of subjects, including real estate, environmentalism and architecture. This article discusses real estate in Charlotte. To learn more about Charlotte real estate, visit the Real Estate Book.

Internet Network Marketing Vs Traditional Network Marketing

May 31st, 2010 at 02:46pm Under Computers & Internet

Copyright (c) 2008 Colin Meunier

The Internet has become an integral part of lives and businesses today. Today, almost every business and professional has a set plan for their business on the online world. Of course, Internet has proved to be a economical way and means of communication and business. There are quite some businesses that are today turning towards the Internet to increase their sales and business. One major business that has meandered into the Internet world is Network Marketing. Apart from the usual advantages and benefits, Internet Network Marketing is quite different than Traditional Network Marketing. Here are some distinguishing points between Network Marketing and Traditional Network Marketing:

Internet Network Marketing Vs Traditional Network Marketing: Cheap on Resources and Finances

Right from the word go, Internet Network Marketing is quite cheap as compared to Traditional Network Marketing. Internet Network Marketing does not need very less or zero physical contact during the initial phases, and the initial phases is where you spend money on getting more people into your Network Marketing business with little or no guarantee of getting it back. For example, Internet Network Marketing does not need you to hold those small meetings and gatherings which are otherwise burning a hole in your pocket.

Apart from this difference, Internet Network Marketing does not require any major expense like a website. Of course, a website is essential for any Internet business, but it can be ignored at the initial stages. Also, you do away with the regular Traditional Networking Marketing costs like printing collateral like flyers, brochures and other necessary printed material.

Also, the Internet increases the productivity of any person, and with your productivity increasing, you will find that you have time to concentrate on other matters regarding the business, or simply that you can handle a lot of work yourself which you would have to hire others for otherwise.

Therefore, Internet Network Marketing is very less on resources too, as compared to Traditional Network Marketing

Internet Network Marketing Vs Traditional Network Marketing: Greater Reach

The Internet has converted the entire world into a small global village, and this applies to the world of Network Marketing too. With Traditional Network Marketing, you can expand your business to only your city, state or at the most your country and a few neighboring ones – which in itself is a tall order. But in the case of Internet Network Marketing, the whole world is your playground, and you are the one who decides where you wish to play this business.

The reach that the Internet has is tremendous, and it is a excellent tool for networking and marketing. A person just requires good business acumen and experience to tap this excellent resource of business and financial gain.

Internet Network Marketing Vs Traditional Network Marketing: Free or Very Cheap Advertising

Apart from all the other costs, Internet Network Marketing also requires much lesser advertising budget, and with the advent of Web 2.0 and article marketing and SEO, the advertising costs on the Internet are almost zero. All you have to do is to get a good content writer to write clear and concise information about your Network Marketing business and you are sure to get much more responses than compared to a month of radio, television and print media ads.

Purchasing Health Insurance Georgia Plans

May 31st, 2010 at 06:02am Under Health

Many different kinds of health insurance Georgia plans are available to residents of the state of Georgia. Although Georgia ranks very low on lists of states whose residents have adequate health insurance Georgia plans, the state’s officials are working towards improving this ranking.

One recent law now permits Georgia residents to purchase individual health insurance Georgia plans from other states. This allows for more competition among health insurance providers, and will probably lead to better prices for residents who are purchasing health insurance Georgia policies.

The state of Georgia also offers some low cost health insurance Georgia plan alternatives, especially for children, the elderly, and those who can demonstrate financial need. These plans include Peach care for Kids, which uses plans developed by Amerigroup, Wellcare, and Peach State, to provide health insurance Georgia plans for children. Many of these plans include benefits for dental, vision, and behavioral health, in addition to regular physical exams and medical treatment. These plans are usually effective for children under the age of 18, although some of them are good until age 21. Please check the specific health insurance Georgia policy for information.

Georgia government employees, including school teachers, have access to the state’s health benefit plan. These health insurance Georgia plans are comprehensive, and there are a variety of types of policies or plans to choose from. Many teachers choose United Healthcare for their health insurance Georgia policy. These plans can be high deductible, low monthly premium, or can include no deductible and faster benefits, depending on what each particular individual is looking for. Some teachers choose to use health savings accounts, in order to receive help paying their deductible each calendar year.

There are several health insurance Georgia plan providers in the state of Georgia who offer products to residents. The seven largest carriers in Georgia are Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Coventry, Kaiser Permanente, Humana, and United Healthcare. All of these companies have health insurance Georgia plans specifically designed for Georgia residents, following all the rules and regulations and requirements of the state. This is a great opportunity for Georgia residents to have a great health insurance Georgia policy and provide coverage for themselves and their family members.

Having a good health insurance Georgia plan will provide peace of mind for Georgia residents who will be able to access medical treatment when they need it, for an illness or injury. Also, they will be able to receive preventive care, and possibly avoid serious illness or injury in the future, because they are taking care of themselves. Besides having a health insurance Georgia policy, it is important for Georgia residents to increase their healthy habits, and improve their health. This can be done by increasing exercise, eating a nutritious diet, and minimizing health risky behaviors, such as smoking or excessive alcohol intake.

If you are under the poverty level, check with a Georgia government department to see if you qualify for a low cost, or government-subisidized health insurance Georgia plan. Otherwise, check with a health insurance company, or an insurance broker, to find a health insurance Georgia plan that will fit your needs and budget.

Sam Dicosta shares his knowledge on health insurance that makes you able to find the plans that best fits your needs.
